The city of Inverness is steeped in history, being known as the capital of the Highlands.

Early in the 12th century King David 1 (1124-1153) made Inverness a royal burgh.  During the 16- 17th  century Inverness was a busy port and market town.

The Battle of Culloden , 16th April 1746 , the main battle lasted an hour with the Jacobite’s suffering a heavy defeat. This changed Scotlands history forever.  The battlefield and Clava Cairns are well worth a visit, go back in time and re-live the moment.  Especially if you have been following “Outlander”.

Flora Macdonald our Scottish Jacobite heroine, helped Charles Edward Stuart (the young Pretender ) to escape from Scotland after the Jacobite rebellion of (1745-46) , she originated from South Uist.  Flora has been immortalised in Scottish history for her courage and bravery.  To this day, she is still ” Looking over the sea to Skye”.  You will see her on your adventure to the Inverness castle.
